Pictures of Mini Carnivals from past students are found below
The idea of this project is to deepen the students understanding of both shapes and fractions. The rides will take on different shapes. For example your two sky rides could be hexagons. Your two ground rides could be rectangles and your concession stands could be trapezoid's.
The index cards will be questions about distances from one ride or location in your "mini carnival" to another location in your "mini carnival".
The creator of the carnival will have to figure out these distances by using the fraction strips and adding them together from one location to the next. They will put their answer on the back of the index card. It is easiest if only one size fraction is used throughout the carnival. (As you will see on the examples below if you zoom in for a closer look.)
The due date for this project is March 25th. Please call me at 650-201-0411 or email at shinesound@hotmail.com if you have any questions.
